Groupthink in Schools of Education
George Will recently wrote a troubling column in Newsweek about political correctness in schools of education, where teachers are expected to have the correct "disposition" -- meaning "progressive" political beliefs.
Sunday's Washington Post had more on this subject in a column by Frederick Hess titled "Schools of Reeducation?" (Hat tip: The Corner.) Hess describes how "teachers colleges have begun to regulate the dispositions and beliefs of those who would teach in our nation's classrooms."
Scary stuff.

This is why I haven't yet completed my degree. I majored in education and couldn't swallow anymore PC indoctrination. Two of our requirements are Latin American History and African-American History but not one class in teaching theory (or American History)is needed to complete the degree.
That is fascinating -- yet sad. The lack of interest in American History is particularly troubling. I wonder if things will ever turn around for the better in this area.
