Too Stupid For Words

There are times I really feel a sense of despair due to all the hand-wringing, politically correct, totalitarian wimps out there.

This story takes the cake: a British government-funded agency working to prevent racism in young children warns that preschoolers who turn up their noses at spicy or unfamiliar foods are engaging in a form of racism.

In an agency guidebook, nursery school teachers are warned about young children who "react negatively to a culinary tradition other than their own by saying 'yuk.'"

This could indicate "a reaction to a food associated with people from a particular ethnic or cultural community."

Nursery schools are encouraged to report as many of these "racist" incidents to their local councils as possible...no doubt so that the little ones can be "re-educated."

British taxpayers are paying for this dreck to be published...and acted on.

How Orwellian, for preschoolers to risk being reported to the government if they're picky eaters.

There just aren't words...

This goes hand in hand with the other story out of Britain of the two children who were forced to perform Muslim prayers, and refused to do so (they weren't Muslim). They were then subsequently punished by the school system. If people aren't alarmed by this in England- we should be - it is an early warning. And we are only a few steps away from this ourselves. This is why so many of us are opposed to NEA and other proponents of forced education.

Excellent points. What happens in Britain is a warning for us here in the U.S.

In CA there has been wrangling over a textbook curriculum which includes children actively "enacting" Muslim customs and prayers to Allah. Here's one story from a few years ago. The U.S. court system has supported this.

Best wishes,
Laura

My question is, what do they do with adults who have an aversion to foods from a different ethnic group or region? What if they go 'yuk' in a public restaurant? Is it off to the re-education camps right then and there?

I wrote the Daily Mail this morning imploring them step away from the ledge of insanity that has taken over their sensibilities, all in the guise of a perverted political correctness.

Unfortunately, as in all issues where supposed adults become intoxicated with their own image, children always pay the highest price.

loophole, I saw that article, too. I hope and pray there is something similar to the ACLU in Britain and those parents take immediate action.

...and yet today from the London Times:

"Police sniffer dogs will have to wear bootees when searching the homes of Muslims so as not to cause offence.

Guidelines being drawn up by the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) urge awareness of religious sensitivities when using dogs to search for drugs and explosives. "

Shaking head...!

I saw a recent story too where a prominent British judge advocated Sharia law. (The Archbishop of Canterbury accepting the idea was quite bad enough!)

I wonder if Muslim children who say "Yuk!" at the sight of pork are considered racist?

Best wishes,
Laura

I'd be in big trouble. I've been a picky eater from toddlerhood.

You and me both, Barb. :) Although I'm getting better since I became interested in cooking a few years ago!

Best wishes,

I thought for sure you were going to tell us about the court case in England where it was ruled that Pringles were not a potato food and, thus, not subject to the 17.5%value added tax.
