Say It Ain't So

Unless Coach Pete Carroll can talk him out of it before a press conference, scheduled for today at Heritage Hall, it looks as though quarterback Mark Sanchez will be skipping his senior year in favor of the NFL draft.

Update: It's a done deal.

Not good news for USC, but the kid probably wanted to enter the draft without having to compete with this year's Heisman candidates...those three quarterbacks all decided to stay in school next year.

It's a tough thing...if it looks like a player will do well in the draft, he always runs the financial risk of an injury diminishing his value senior year. But, in general, I sure like to see players finish out their degrees. And it's a real disappointment for Trojan fans, that's for sure --

Best wishes,

Yeah, I prefer they finish their degrees also, but injury is a big factor. With the other three quarterbacks staying in school, the USC quarterback will probably be drafted higher and get more $$$$.

I wonder...does that mean he can't finish his degree still? I know he will not be able to play and perhaps lose scholarship money, but if he is being paid some serious dough and is a year away from graduation, couldn't he foot the bill and finish out on his own.
Wait a minute. I'm sorry. I'm assuming he wants to finish school! What was I thinking?

You know, I just remembered, I believe Sanchez was a "red shirt"...in which case he may have just completed his B.A. and would have gotten a Master's this coming year...

Best wishes,
Laura
