The Hard Way (1943): A Photo Gallery

Friday evening I had the pleasure of seeing THE HARD WAY (1943) at UCLA for the first time in years. The film was part of UCLA's tribute to Ida Lupino, screened along with HARD, FAST AND BEAUTIFUL (1951), directed by Lupino. There's much more about the evening posted here.

When I first reviewed THE HARD WAY back in 2008 there apparently weren't any images available to illustrate my post. I thought I'd make up for that now by sharing some of the terrific photos I've found of stars Ida Lupino, Joan Leslie, Dennis Morgan, and Jack Carson.

THE HARD WAY tells the story of a pair of sisters who rise from rags to riches, only to discover the old cliche is true, money isn't quite everything. Incidentally, this first photo of a scene with Roman Bohnen as Lupino's husband doesn't appear in the movie:

Saturday night's Lupino films were also terrific. Coming soon: Reviews of OUTRAGE (1949) and THE BIGAMIST (1953).

Previous movie photo gallery posts: THE MARK OF ZORRO (1940), YELLOW SKY (1948), NIGHT HAS A THOUSAND EYES (1948), WESTWARD THE WOMEN (1951), ESCAPE FROM FORT BRAVO (1953), and THE GLASS SLIPPER (1955).

Hi Laura!
It's indeed good to see Ida Lupino's talents being recognised here. She was a talented actress and a fine and pioneering film-maker. Pretty unique at the time. Plus, she was an immigrant, having grown up as part of the Lupino family of entertainers in England.
Quite a woman.
What a great batch of films at UCLA for you to go and see!
